Rude Mechanicals

"...the strangely disturbed world of the Rude Mechanicals who sound a little bit like The Flying Lizards, a little bit like The Native Hipsters and a great deal like nothing you ever heard before... " Tom Robinson BBC6

Exhibition: Dancing for the Spring Goddess by Jo Roberts

20th to 31st March 2024

Private view: Wednesday 20th of March from 6.30 to 9.30

Rude Mechanicals had a fab time performing on the 27th - a big thank you to everyone who came - Benita and James for opening with a lovely set (I particulalrly asked them as I keep missing their gigs, easiest way to see them? Invite them to play! We kicked off with Tim on Cello and Catherine on saw, drum and voice - it was great to play with them again; they appear as guest artists on our new LP which we will be out on vinyl as soon as the details are sorted with our label, but more on that soon… I don’t want to tempt fate; as they say - there’s many a slip twixt cup and lip (I always thought that was a Shakespeare quote but apparently it goes back much further to 3rd Century BCE Greece! We were delighted to have Jowe start the second set with Miss Roberts on Water Deity Music by Jowe and words by Miss Roberts. Marina came in on bass for a more uptempo second half with drumming from Gardeloo Spew (including using a bucket and wooden spoon). Jowe added some touches from is Kaossiator synth by the end the Rude Mechanicals ranks swelled to include three percussionists!

Reflecting on art's essence, I once pondered words. After surviving a stroke in 2000, I embraced wordless painting, finding joy in nature's beauty. My art, nature-inspired, aims to uplift through simplicity, echoing Blake's universe in a grain of sand. No need for elaborate words, just nature's colourful embrace in my London abode.
